How to Preserve Your Special Day with Custom Wedding Artwork

Updated: Sep 6

Hello, art enthusiasts! Daphne here. Today, I’m excited to share a special project that’s close to my heart—my first custom wedding artwork commission. This project took me on a wonderful journey from concept to completion, and I’m thrilled to share the process of turning James and Andrea’s cherished wedding floral garland into a beautiful custom artwork.

The Client’s Vision

James and Andrea approached me with a heartfelt request: they wanted to capture the beauty of the floral garland that adorned their head table during their wedding. The arrangement featured an array of their favorite flowers, including anemones, daisies and hydrangeas. They envisioned preserving this important detail of their special day through custom wedding artwork that would serve as a keepsake for years to come.

Initial Consultation and Creative Process

We discussed their preferences, including the overall aesthetic and the ideal size of the painting, settling on an 8x10 inch piece. I carefully photographed the garland to reference throughout the creation process.

Next came the exciting part—planning and sketching. Using Procreate on my iPad, I experimented with various compositions to highlight the beauty of the floral arrangement.

Client Review and Final Touches

After completing the sketch, I shared it with James and Andrea for their review. This step is always important because it allows my clients to provide feedback and ensure the piece aligns with their vision. They were thrilled with the sketch, and we moved forward without the need for revisions. Knowing how much they trusted my creative process was incredibly rewarding! From there, I transferred it to watercolor paper using a light board, ensuring every detail was accurate and thoughtfully placed.

One of my favorite parts of this project was turning the painting into custom thank-you cards for James and Andrea. This extra touch gave them a meaningful way to share a piece of their wedding with their guests, adding even more value.

Here’s what they had to say:

“We approached Daphne with a special request to paint our wedding garland, knowing how realistic her floral subjects are. She was very thoughtful in helping us choose our desired results, and we trusted her creative process completely. My husband and I were blown away by the painting (and the print she made for our thank-you cards) and how she captured the essence of the flowers and our special day so beautifully.”
