A Flower Wall Art Commission for a Boston Skincare Brand

One of my big goals in 2024 is to do more commissions! In fact, I’m aiming to do at least one commission per month all year. These kind of projects are so rewarding because it gives me the opportunity to translate an idea from a client into my own style and wow them with the result. It also challenges me to paint something I likely wouldn’t have painted on my own, which is a perfect way for me to acquire new skills.

Each time I do a commission, I plan to highlight the subject matter and process on this blog. month’s commission. This is an opportunity for you to follow along my journey and see my skills evolve, and for me to reflect on the subject matter and learnings. I hope you enjoy the process and story behind each piece!

Really Just Shae Commission by Daphne Rae Creative

This flower wall art commission was for Really Just Shae, a skin care brand based here in Boston. The owner, Aicha, wanted this piece to resemble the flower wall in her retail location in downtown Boston, which was comprised of ivy, roses, and eucalyptus. Over that, she wanted a painted version of her logo.

This piece was a huge lesson in color mixing. I really enjoyed playing with all of the different shades of green, and creating depth and shadows in the roses. As this was a branding piece, it was also critical to match the colors of her logo. It’s such a fun challenge in color theory to use the proper inputs to make the desired color. I still have a lot to learn when it comes to color theory, but I feel I’ve made a lot of progress with those artistic color instincts.

Aicha also hired me to make greeting cards with this design, which I printed from my home studio. In the future, she plans to use this image across other digital marketing and printed products.

Does this spark any ideas for a commissioned piece? Feel free to get in touch with me to discuss your project!
