Tomatoes
A couple of years ago, I grew cherry tomatoes on my front porch window box and found so much joy in watching the fruits ripen from green to a deep red. I even took embarrassing selfies with them that will never see the light of day.
I’ve started to realize that what I find most beautiful about nature, garden, flowers, is seeing the progression. Seeing how the composition and color changes depending on time, growth, ripening. Cherry tomatoes sort of have their own color palette! It’s so inspiring to me.
This mini collection of 5x7 gouache on cotton paper paintings is inspired by photos I’ve taken of tomatoes on my walks, creeping into people’s yards, or from the gardens of my friends. Unfortunately, I’ve been unsuccessful in growing tomatoes the last two summers, so I’m always thrilled when I can snap a photo of someone else’s beautiful fruits.
